Using the Styles

Using the Book Design Wizard Styles

The Book Design Wizard uses a series of Styles to control the formatting of text. These styles are applied properly to the text when using the Book Design Wizard tools. For example, the BkWzd: Chapter Text style is applied to the chapter text when you use the [Double Click to Add Text] tool and the BkWzd: Chapter Title style is applied to all chapter titles you entered in the book setup form or when using the ‘Add New Chapter’ tool. If you wish to change the formatting of the chapter text, chapter titles, etc., you should change the settings of its style, and not apply the changes directly to the text. You can do that by using the ‘Change Chapter Styles’, ‘Change Fonts Used’ or ‘Modify Selected Style – Advanced’ tools in the Book Design Wizard’s ‘Mange Styles and Layout’ menu.

If you are adding text directly into your document without using the Book Design Wizard’s tools you should apply the proper style to it. If you add chapter text but do not apply the BkWzd: Chapter Text style to it then it will not match the other styles and you will not be able to control the style using the Book Design Wizard’s tools. If you add a new chapter but do not use the BkWzd: Chapter Title to the chapter title then it will not appear in the Table of Contents.

The styles built into the Book Design Wizard are listed in alphabetical order below:

  • BkWzd: Author (applied to the author name on the book title page)
  • BkWzd: Block Quote (you can apply this to any block quotes in your document)
  • BkWzd: Book Title (applied to the Book Title on the book’s title page)
  • BkWzd: Chapter Sub Heading (applied to chapter subheadings when using the ‘Add Chapter Subtitle’ tool, or you can apply it directly to any chapter subheadings in your document. All text set to this style will appear in the Table of Contents)
  • BkWzd: Chapter Text (applied to all chapter text in your document when using one of the first two options in the [Double Click to Add Text] tool)
  • BkWzd: Chapter Title (applied to all Chapter Titles entered in the chapter title section of the setup form or when using the ‘Add Chapter’ tool, all text set to this style will also appear in the Table of Contents)
  • BkWzd: Copyright (applied to the text automatically inserted on the copyright page)

  • BkWzd: Scene Break (you can apply this style to any extra paragraph break you insert between paragraphs where there is a change of scene, point of view, time change, etc. to allow you to control the spacing of these breaks separately from the main chapter paragraphs)
